  • BROWN UNIVERSITY OFFERS FREE PATIENT HEALTH WORKSHOP AT SEDC

The Socio-Economic Development Center for Southeast Asians (SEDC) and Brown University Alpert Medical School are hosting the event How to Take Medicines Correctly, a free patient health education workshop that will focus on communication issues between English-speaking doctors and their Cambodian patients, on Wednesday January 13, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at SEDC (270 Elmwood Avenue, Providence, RI 02906).

Many Cambodians who speak Khmer, the Cambodian language, have trouble understanding their doctors instructions about how to take medicine and other information. The workshop will include free dinner, free gifts for all attendees, a video called How to Take Medicines Correctly shown in Khmer and English, a panel presentation by local doctors and social workers, a speaker from the Cambodian community. Thirty members of the Rhode Island Cambodian community will be invited to attend. There will be a free van pick-up for individuals who need a ride. This should be a very informative event for any adult who has ever wondered about how to communicate with doctors about medications and how to stay healthy.
A second workshop will be held on February 10, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at SEDC.

SEDC is a community-based nonprofit organization that works to promote the evolution of healthy and productive citizens among people with roots in Southeast Asia by facilitating their transition to life in America.
Please feel free to call SEDC at (401)-274-8811 if you would like more information about this topic.
